04/29/2025 - Oakland, CA
Pros
Can’t think of anything positive about my experience to be honest.
Cons
I worked at Kissel Uptown Oakland under Aimbridge Hospitality and, unfortunately, my experience was disappointing in several key areas.Training: The onboarding process was entirely virtual, consisting of 8-hour days in front of a computer for 3-4 weeks. The training was not interactive; there was no hands-on coaching with the various software programs required for the role. Instead, I was expected to absorb a huge amount of information passively, while being randomly quizzed to check for retention. When I expressed that I didn’t feel the virtual training was effective and would benefit from one-on-one, in-person training, my concerns were dismissed. After this, one of my managers—who was supposed to help train me—became distant, stopped communicating, and developed a negative attitude toward me, which made the work environment very uncomfortable and unhealthy just two weeks into my new job.Management & HR:When I sought help from HR about my manager’s behavior (including being ignored when asking work-related questions), the HR representative was kind and supportive during our conversation. However, after our meeting, I didn’t receive any follow-up or solution for another three weeks. My boss later told me she expected me to approach her directly, rather than her reaching out after hearing about the issue from HR.Workplace Culture: There were clear inconsistencies in enforcing policies. For example, I was told my attire wasn’t 100% in dress code, yet other employees wore activewear to work almost daily without issue. Additionally, the General Manager, a Caucasian woman from South Africa, told the office she was African American—remarkably, she shared this during Black History Month, which felt inappropriate and tone-deaf. To add to the discomfort, a coworker told me during my first week that she knew where I lived, despite me never sharing that information. When I asked how she knew, she said my boss had told her, which was a breach of privacy. Additionally, coworkers would engage in conversation in the office and never include me. Acted as if I wasn’t even there.Compensation & Benefits:The position paid $29/hour, which I found to be very underpaid considering the workload and the number of different programs required for the role. Vacation time doesn’t start to accrue until after your 180th workday, which is unusually restrictive. The health and dental benefits were also very expensive. I noticed that once they posted the position available online following my departure they updated the hourly salary to $23-$26 instead of the $29 I was paid in that role.Resignation Process: When I submitted my resignation, I was told I would be paid in lieu of notice and did not need to return to work, but the final date I provided in my letter was not honored—they removed a week from it. My final paycheck was three days late. When I went to pick up my check and belongings, I was required to sign a letter waiving any claim to additional pay or late penalties just to receive my check.Summary:Overall, my experience at Kissel Uptown Oakland with Aimbridge Hospitality was negative due to ineffective training, inconsistent management, lack of support from HR, questionable workplace culture, privacy concerns, and subpar compensation and benefits. I hope this review helps others make an informed.

03/11/2025 - New Delhi
Pros
I worked for Aimbridge for about a year, and it is a great company offering good health and other benefits opportunities for their partners.
Cons
The salary should be more competitive regarding the job market and inflation, but you have great support from other partners to grow and learn in your department.

Pros

Cons

Poor Management
03/22/2025 - Culver City, CA
Pros
No pros at the moment.
Cons
I struggled to see any progress in learning or growing in this work environment. On a professional level I was left to deal with the brute end of things at the desk and when I came to management about things more than half of the time it was always the worst part of their day to see me coming. I was left feeling hopeless everyday like there would be no end to my suffering while meanwhile management is in the back having group chats where they don't do anything but laugh and crack up and also talk loud enough for the whole world to hear . Management is just really like playing the lottery here and it just made the whole experience draining and stupid. I feel bad for them mostly. They also cut your hours and use policies at their convenience. This job is not a good place if you have moral standards and are looking to be successful in life. Not unless you want to sell your soul to management.

Questionable Culture

Pros
Plenty of resources to get the job done.
Cons
I get previous executive leadership dropped the ball on pushing the company forward in a responsible manner financially- but the M.O. now is to put the pressure on GMs to execute operationally and financially as if we put the company behind. Culture at first when new CEO came in was to be GM focused. Turns out that’s GM micromanagement and bowing down to owners who don’t truly take care of their assets. Once they don’t see a return they are selling off to small ownerships or just defaulting on loans (yes, really) and then Aimbridge no longer runs the hotel. Aimbridge executives often boast about being the best both for owners and its leaders. The only major hospitality company to not have a conference for its leaders to get buy in that we are actually all in this together. Bonuses- you’ll need to fight for them every step of the way. Corporate accounting often changes its philosophies and once you are used to doing things one way…they change. Want to make flow through? Tough luck- you will be hit with random charges from either taxes not being paid or accrued for correctly. Set budgets with low expenses and high revenues knowing full well they are close to impossible to achieve. How is this setting up your GMs for success?
