Stagnant career growth with unsafe working conditions
08/30/2026 - New York, NY
Pros
6 percent 401k match, Decent paycheck, You get to work by yourself which is a plus for me. Out in the field and not stuck inside a cubical.
Cons
Weak Union, health insurance premium, Terrible vision and dental Benefits. I signed up for a career to grow and advance, after working here as a fios technician for 3 years all I see is a dead end. The work is all plug and play layer 1 and 2 work dumbed down for the technician. I came here more experienced then leaving here. Days off are absolutely terrible, we dont get any PTO days, you get 6 or 7 Esther days which you basically burn your own vacation days, and 4 sick days and 2 weeks vacation after your first year. Constantly overloaded with work expected to make unrealistic commitment times. Management refuses to move work off your route close to the end of your shift when by contract you are scheduled to work an 8 hour shift. The Management constantly violates the union agreement and contract, twisting and manipulating the wording and interpreting it in their favor. You work in unsafe and very filthy customer homes, areas, especially in affordable housing complexes. Management expects you to do right by the customer but as soon a mistake or accident happens on your end you are penalized and punished for it with suspension. I asked for a religious exemption to be able to follow my religious day of observance (sabbath) they refused stating its apart of the Union contract. I was expecting to grow in my career in telecom, Unfortunately for 3 years now no potential grow is visible in sight. If you are an experiences telecom technician who is seeking more then just plug and play work, look somewhere else. Literally learned nothing since starting here. Entry level position that leads to nowhere. If you enjoy climbing poles and carrying extension ladders in rainstorms, heatwaves, snowstorms, freezing cold weather multiple times a day, this might be the career for you. Just dont forget, once your back goes it goes, you only get one back. What an absolute disappointment.

08/28/2026 - Trenton, NJ
Pros
Competitive salary, good benefits, and job security.

The new contract places too much pressure on employees to meet sales goals, sometimes at the expense of customer needs.

27 Years of Service — A Difficult Ending
08/28/2026 - New York, NY
Pros
Good pay and benefits, strong union wages in represented positions, opportunities to learn valuable technical and customer-service skills, and the chance to build lasting relationships with coworkers and customers. Over many years, I worked alongside some truly great people and leaders who took pride in their work and supported their teams.
Cons
After more than 27 years with Verizon, one of the biggest disappointments was seeing how much an employee’s experience could depend on the management team they worked under. In my experience, poor leadership, inconsistent treatment, and a culture where employees could feel afraid to challenge management created an unnecessarily stressful work environment. Employees should be able to raise legitimate concerns or disagree with management without feeling that doing so could put a target on their back. There also seemed to be a disconnect between the values promoted at the corporate level and what employees could experience at the local management level. Accountability needs to work both ways. Employees are expected to follow policies and meet high standards, but managers should be held to equally high standards regarding professionalism, fairness, communication, and how they treat their employees. After investing decades of my career in the company, I learned an important lesson: a great company name cannot compensate for poor leadership at the local level.Verizon has many talented and hardworking employees. They deserve leaders who listen to them, respect them, develop them, and understand that leadership is about earning trust—not simply having authority.
