Sunrun Reviews
Loved my team
04/25/2025 - California, MD
Pros
Good work life balance and good team
Cons
None I can think of
Great Place
03/23/2025 - San Francisco, CA
Pros
Hybrid, friendly coworkers, fun place to work
Cons
Not many as this was one of the most fair jobs I have had
Don’t do it!
03/03/2025 - San Diego, CA
Pros
The first few weeks of training and working from home was the only good part. I also loved my trainer and my boss but that’s it sadly.
Cons
Micromanaging, horrible policies, metrics, benefits, no quota relief, good leads are giving to their favorite people and can continue going. Also, you will get let go even if you are a new hire.
Great leadership, growth opportunities
03/06/2025 - San Diego, CA
Pros
Working at Sunrun it’s been a positive experience so far. The company culture is supportive and inclusive; specially their “sherun” program that empowers women to success in all areas. I meet the CEO in person and it’s a company that truly cares about people and environment. Great opportunity to grow financially and manage your own time.
Cons
You need grit, discipline, drive, resilience, responsibility to make it work. It’s very hard to be out knocking doors, but is worth it.It’s fully commission, takes a little longer at the beginning to build income
Low pay & bad management
03/16/2025 - New York, NY
Pros
• You can make decent money IF you set a lot of appointments and IF you are lucky enough some of them to turn into a sale.
Cons
This job did not meet the promises made at the start. The HR team is unhelpful, and their response time is extremely slow. The role itself is monotonous—walking around a store all day trying to pitch solar to customers. There’s no paid sick leave (at least I wasn’t paid when I was out sick), and training is minimal—just the first week, after which you’re left to figure things out on your own by asking your manager.I was also told there were growth opportunities, but in reality, there are none. If you start as a sales associate, you’ll stay one unless you aim for a district manager role, which ironically might pay less than what you made before.
Satisfying and rewarding work
03/21/2025 - Petaluma, CA
Pros
I personally achieve a healthy work/life balance; the company offers good benefits and a reasonable amount of Paid Time Off. Remote work is supported and encouraged. There are endless opportunities for growth but you MUST be dedicated, focused and self-motivated. The company is dynamic, rated as a rising star company and ran by smart business people. This company is ethical and careful to stay in compliance; they encourage employees to be responsible for their own health and happiness, and the company provides ample opportunities and resources for the individual to do so. You will read reviews from people who just weren't a good fit for the company. I work with people in sales, operations (installation), and Project Management - I've never felt a stronger sense of camaraderie and job satisfaction than I do here at Sunrun.
Cons
Some of us do work long hours sometimes. It is never required and I am ALWAYS fairly compensated. The Customer Experience Surveys set up Project Managers to take the fall for sales not setting proper expectations or poorly executed operations performance. Sunrun is a Corporation: volume IS important and employees need to be mature enough to embrace that if we want to do well here. Some people who let their emotions get the best of them will find themselves laid off due to having a bad attitude. California's a real threat to residential solar. PG&E is THE WORST to have to deal with, which frustrates customers and Sunrunners alike.
Safe Space for the Self-driven to Theive
03/26/2025 - Bakersfield, CA
Pros
Big and corporate but still homegrown business culture. You can earn a lot with perserverance.
Cons
You must be willing to give it all you got and circumstances out of your control can still muddle your hard work.
Great if you want a 9-5 from home
02/21/2025 - Lehi, UT
Pros
Benefits, commission, bonuses, base pay.
Cons
Work 100 - 150% for 25% outcome. Jobs can be reassigned and stolen. Expected to work as hard as you can and get paid 2-4 months later if no issues with projects and nobody else messes the project process up. Commissions should be higher. A lot of nepotism at this company it is all based on who you know.
Best employer
02/24/2025 - San Francisco, CA
Pros

Cons
None that I can think of

02/07/2025 - Bakersfield, CA

Cons

02/21/2025 - New York, NY
Pros
Remote work, flexible paid time off, benefits
Cons
Culture may not be for everybody.
Job was good but appointments don't sit or sill
02/06/2025 - Fort Collins, CO
Pros
Good base pay and commission pay. Good benefits. Able to work alone and at your own pace. Good training and support.
Cons
Close rate is not the advertised 20%, more like 5%. Half of the appointments set don't end up sitting.
Okay job
02/11/2025 - Westbury, NY
Pros
Good pay if you like to hustle
Cons
Commission can be clawed back
Difficult work but will get paid for it. Company does not fire people easily
02/01/2025 - Houston, TX
Pros
A lot of the crews in the field are great and fun to work with. Work is consistent. They pay well and there are great benefits, rewards and prizes. If you are looking to learn electrical this is a great stepping stool, they will even provide you with material to study so you can get your electrical license. The company overall does listen to their employees and makes chances, but the changes sometimes take some time to be put into effect. Some members in management genuinely care about you, will look out for you and help you with what you need.
Cons
Work can be stressful. The branch manager pushes his employees, lies to workers and looks out for his own interests. If you have a family you may not get a lot of time with them do to the hours. Many times we are asked to do things that we should not be doing. A lot of things are last minute, we constantly are missing material, jobs are reviewed poorly so we have to make design changes which causes us to be tight on time, customers are lied to and misinformed. Many employees should not be working here, some have been caught smoking weed on the job then talking to the customer. Others do not work hard and are a burden to the rest of the crew but for some reason the branch manager will not discipline or fire them.
It Was A Good 6 Years, I Guess.
02/01/2025 - Des Plaines, IL
Pros
- Great benefits and pay.- OT was allowed during the busy times. - PTO could accumulate to very high levels if desired (I had well over 100 hours banked). - Lots of company vacation days, and they offered a single flexible holiday per year.- Colleagues were generally wonderful to work with. - LGBTQ+ friendly.- We were allowed to get reimbursed on miles driven for commuting and picking up permits. - Ever since COVID, my work situation went from full on-site to mostly remote. As long as you got your work done, hours were pretty flexible.- Working on weekends was never required, unless if it was really busy and you wanted to volunteer and get some extra OT. - Severance is available if being laid off and you've been with the company for at least 1 year.
Cons
- When Sunrun is done with you, they will throw you to the curb no matter how long you've been there or how hard you worked. Always be ready to potentially get let go. I survived many rounds of layoffs throughout the years, but in the end my hard work and dedication to the company wasn't enough.- No bonus structure for permitting. It didn't really matter if you overachieved and brought in a lot of permits, or if you did the bare minimum.- Upper management repeatedly claimed to care about the customer, yet any customer inquiries were routed to a single Customer Care number which doesn't direct the caller to anyone in-house. - God forbid a customer walked in through the front door, we didn't have a system in place to give them immediate help. Instead, we'd tell them to call the 'Customer Care number' as we didn't have any customer service people on-site.- The main thing managers cared about was pushing new installs, which inevitably led to neglecting existing customers. - The Des Plaines office never felt like an office.. more like a small extension of the warehouse. Pre-COVID, the open-floor plan office environment was much more lively, but since then, it's become a ghost town.- The branch let go of their only front desk assistant years ago, resulting in a very disorganized and unprofessional office space.
