Pros

- Benefits are phenomenal and immediate; sick policy is generous, health insurance is great, many reimbursements for things like fitness and tuition, and a point system you can use to buy things that would ordinarily be out-of-budget.- Work is fast-paced and repetitive, but is flavored by interactions with donors; you get to know these donors and have extended conversations with them. Many of my donors recognize me and ask me about updates in my life. If you enjoy doing the same tasks over and over, you will do just fine.- Management are generally helpful and laid-back, and several managers will come to help out during busy times. On multiple occasions they've stepped in to take over for me prevent me from staying late. The center manager even makes sure I have a day off from both school *and* work so I don't get burnt out.- Hours can be a bit tricky, but there's generally many available hours to work, and you don't go home at an unreasonable time.- Great way to get an entry-level job to start on higher qualifications, or get more experience under your belt.

Cons

- Understaffing is ever-present and ranges from mild to nightmarish, and can either be deliberate to fulfill some productivity quota or unavoidable due to call-outs/lack of trained staff. There are almost always more appointments than can be handled in a timely manner by employees. It won't be uncommon to be faced with long lines.- Donors can get irritated and even aggressive if they're ineligible for donation and can target this animosity at you. Some donors just want an extra few hundred to spend every month, and some feel the money for donation is life-or-death and get extremely defensive about it. I haven't experienced anything more than verbal backlash from donors in my time, though.- Some donors are just plain unpleasant, for any variety of reasons, but this is true of any customer-facing position, and is obviously outside of BioLife's control.- Shifts may be scheduled in a wonky way. Part-timers will often be scheduled for multiple 8 to 10 hour shifts; college students will typically be scheduled all day on weekends to meet the weekly 20+ hour requirement, which can make a school-work-life balance extremely difficult to maintain. This can be negotiated with but not always accommodated by management.- You're on your feet all day, and it can be pretty tiring on the back and legs. You are generally not allowed to sit down even if there's no donors around.- Training will either be rapid-fire and several hours of videos in one sitting, or take forever to get through. I signed up for one role, agreed to fill in for a time in another, have been here for six months, and still have not been trained for said role. I'm not in a rush, but it is annoying.- Judging by these other reviews, your experience will be very case-by-case and seems to depend a lot on the management of your specific location. Take that how you will.
