A lot of the individual contributors are smart and good people. Despite F&D being a retail company, the engineers are surprising quite intelligent. Also the benefits are okayish.That's about it.

I left earlier this year and it's taken me months to mentally digest what I witnessed. I don't even know where to start, there's so much. You know when you read horror stories about toxic office jobs? This is what people think of.Sadly, most of the problems manifested at the engineering/IT level but were downstream from middle and upper management and business. During my time there, people were involuntarily let go like crazy. Maybe a couple were justified, but over time it became clear some were just scapegoats. Management would constantly pressure deadlines and complain about quality, but so many teams were severely understaffed and continued to be.They'd fire good people and keep others who don't do as much or, in some cases, hardly do ANYTHING. Why? I have some guesses, but I think they didn't like people expressing opinions who were lower than them. I saw so many people get ignored, shut down, or even in some cases, verbally attacked for making legitimate criticisms.Again, the turnover rate is INCREDIBLY high, not just involuntary but voluntary as well. It's always the same cycle. The good people try really hard for a while, but they aren't rewarded for it and are expected to put out fires caused by mismanagement. After a while, the good people just leave. Over time, I noticed the most problematic people were the few who'd been there a long time (they're not hard to find because there are so few). I felt as though those people would protect each other and completely abuse their power.Middle management also loves their fluffy statistics. Oftentimes, middle management/product ownership would either ask us to fudge our numbers or just do it themselves so they can look good for THEIR managers. Obviously, you can only do this so much before it causes a cascade of issues. Yeah, having a nice green bar graph that says A+ on it is cool, but it doesn't mean anything if you falsify it. It's like cheating a workout. Yeah, I can squat 405 pounds easily if I only go down 2 inches and do it on the Smith machine. I resent this because the people pushing for this nonsense are the same people who are causing 95% of the problems in the first place. They're also the biggest examples of the Dunning-Kruger effect I've ever seen, but I'm sure they don't know what that is.I could go on, but if I did, this would be a Game of Thrones novel.TL;DR: Untrustworthy management, incompetent business people, fake emergencies, poor structure, high turnover rate, anxiety-inducing, cliquey, not a lot of chances for growth, smoke and mirrors, and the pay isn't that good.Just know the few people who have your back won't be around long, and you'll get thrown under the bus to save a few dollars.

I got to sell tile and help customers redesign rooms in their homes and businesses.

Everything. Pay is terrible. Management is lazy, backstabbing and chauvinistic at best. There is little to no room for growth or pay increase. Even in Miami at their designer show room in Wynwood they wanted to pay designers $15 an hour. That is not a livable wage anywhere in FL no less in that area. Corporate acted like the creativity, experience and dedication to the customer was owed to them even without proper support, care or pay. I was literally laughed at when I proposed being paid a decent wage when discussing the “opportunity” of being “considered” for a “better” position that was going to be a solid hour drive to and from work. They do not care about their employees on a human level at all. It is not a privilege to work there and to be verbally threatened by uneducated department managers who also used extremely aggressive body language to communicate their complete lack of self-control.

Really good benefits and the people you work with are nice people. And do there best to help you.

Management always wants to criticize does not care to help. Had my store manager sit until everybody went to do. And it feels like we're all getting torn down. Being If you don't work one Holiday you will the next and get that extra pay. They talk about how there's Opportunities but don't hire internally almost always higher externally.
