Shop employees and ground level management. Pay is good but bonuses are unattainable.

CEO has zero knowledge of this industry. He is belittling, contradicts his own decisions, dishonest, and degrading to his employees. You work on edge wondering if you are the next employee to be fired unexpectedly. It does not matter how well your shop performs, there is only criticism and never a positive comment from upper management. It’s a very unpredictable and emotionally a beat down daily from the CEO. His negativity trickles down and makes working for Gerber a less than desirable decision.

Since Gerber bought out JHCC its been very hard to find any Pros regarding Gerber/The Boyd Group. The only Pro that I can think about it that they gave all their new employees that were JHCC lunch boxes and some nice travel coffee mugs.
Cons
There is no leadership WITHIN the company. There is a lot of "higher ups" but honestly they don't know a whole lot, Area and regional managers are terrible but i think The Boyd Group wants the Ignorant, No experience people in the higher up positions so they can be taught the bare minimum, and make a good salary to compensate with having to be a Jerk for a living but they have absolutely no clue on the ins and outs of running or working in a body shop. They are told what numbers they need and they hassle the shop managers to get those numbers but there is never any conversation or discussion about it. If you reach out to them for answers to questions you never get actual answers b/c they don't know, They do not let managers run their shops b/c they keep them behind a desk looking at 40-50 emails a day about NOTHING. They look at every employee number and No More!!!

They bought out Joe Hudson collision, 0 pay raises, 0 extra vacation as we got every year under Joe Hudson, they don't give 0 flips about their employees I've been on this job 3 years and since they bought out Joe Hudson they've done nothing but lie to us employees avoid this company at all costs don't be like me and devote your life to this company because you are of no value to them I hope this company sinks and goes bankrupt

Everything. Worked for them for 12 years. Left for 2. Came back in management and was great for a while. Became frustrated as was unable to get rid of people due to hr wanting to give them “more time to fix the problems” . Decided to step down and move closer to home. No one discussed the offer moving back down just ensured me “you’ll make what you need to make”. Currently I am making what I need to make but unfortunately they are taking $500 a week to pay back a “recoverable draw” from 4 years ago when the agreement was struck by the market manager,manager and myself that when my manager was not there I’d run the shop. They are currently stealing my money and all I got was “I know this isn’t the answer you wanted to hear “ they restructured the estimator pay plan and did away with the tier ranking incentive and tied the estimator pay in with management bonuses (they basically make bonuses unattainable). They bank on free labor knowing if you don’t do multiple other jobs that you will not make enough money to survive and hand you a recoverable draw at barely minimum wages. Upper management is completely disconnected from the people that actually care about customers and they cater to insurance companies. One insurance company requires a”first look inspection “ as soon as the vehicle arrives, quotes is 2 separate part quote programs and a guy that used to work for Gerber reviewing our estimates that has a vendetta against us (not sure how that’s not a conflict of interest). Never been the one to die on the “I don’t get paid to write total losses” hill but after being treated the way I am currently with free labor and money being stolen from me it’s starting to get to me.
Okay pay, but work-life balance is sacrificed

This company is the most hierarchical organization I’ve ever worked for, and the company culture is trash because of it.
Cons
They only care about furthering their interests, meaning the executives. The decisions that are made are not done for the greater good of their employees, so keep this in mind before you apply. If you need a temporary job, it’s fine, but please, do not stay.
