Rolls-Royce, as the client, was a fantastic organisation to work with. The staff were welcoming, professional, and a pleasure to work alongside. Likewise, the vast majority of the internal teams at JLL were supportive, collaborative, and equally enjoyable to work with.

In my opinion, the main drawbacks centred around the management culture created what I experienced as a negative working environment.From the outset, there was a significant lack of onboarding. The contract and site were both complex, yet I was provided with a laptop and phone and expected to get on with the role with very little handover or structured induction. There were no regular one-to-one meetings, no probation reviews, and no meaningful handover of processes or procedures. As a result, I was frequently expected to deal with issues that were well beyond my remit or pay grade, with very little clarity around my responsibilities or what was expected of me.I also experienced behaviour from management that I found to be unprofessional. For example, the client was often referred to as “bed wetters,” significant issues were regularly minimised rather than addressed, and I was repeatedly asked to undertake tasks that I had never been shown how to complete. I felt there were clear double standards when it came to basic respect and accountability within the team. In my experience, my manager did not consistently lead by example, and this had a noticeable impact on morale, professionalism, and the overall culture within the team. There were also numerous meetings where threats regarding bonuses were used as a means of applying pressure, with comments such as, “If you don’t do this, I won’t get my bonus,” followed by suggestions that the wider team would also lose theirs. The most concerning experience for me occurred during a meeting where I was threatened with failing my probation because I had allegedly made my manager feel ostracised by not asking if they wanted a coffee. During that same meeting, I was told not to repeat what had been said outside the room because, due to my manager’s seniority, I would not be believed or taken seriously. I was also instructed to wash my manager’s cup, which I politely refused, as I did not believe this formed part of my role.The workload was consistently high, while expectations continued to increase without the necessary support or guidance. Meetings were frequently cancelled or unattended, and there was an ongoing lack of communication and engagement from management. Overall, I felt there was very little respect shown towards those lower in the management structure.Unfortunately, it was not a positive working environment, and based on my experience, it is not one I would choose to return to.
