Supportive GM but upper management lacks ownership

08/27/2026 - The Rocks

Pros

GM Kim Mahaffy was fantastic. Some of the other members of leadership didn't care so much about the little guy but she absolutely made an effort to check in.The staff meals were good something new every day, rotating every 3 weeks or so. Could pack some for home if you wanted! The F&B team was good, managment a little funky - I heard there have been some changes now though.

Cons

Smaller boutique hotel. Upper management doesn't really take any ownership, all falls on the lower management running the floor and picking up all of their tasks with not much recognition (personally expereinced but also saw this happen to many others.)

World-Class Training Ground, but "People First" Is Not Practiced

08/26/2026 - null

Pros

- Marriott is not just a hotel chain; it's an institution—a university where every aspect of hotel operations is considered. - You are given the right tools to execute your job properly. - The standards are adequate and professional. - Professional expertise and assistance are available upon request. - Strong global brand recognition that adds value to your resume. - Exposure to diverse teams and international hospitality operations.

Cons

- "People First" is a façade; "Money First" would be more accurate. Mass layoffs during COVID demonstrated where priorities truly lie. - Compared to Starwood, many systems are outdated and inefficient. - No real moral support: if the owner wants you out, the company will not defend you, even when you are in the right. - They show little concern for the owner's asset; the primary focus is on management fees and incentives. - Local talent is often overlooked in favor of expatriates from Europe, the US, etc., even when local expertise already exists or only needs development. - They do not teach the "real stuff" (e.g., finance); that knowledge is reserved for expatriates. Local employees are treated as labor to execute on the floor, not as people to develop and grow.

Good hours and flexibility, but low pay and rude customers

08/25/2026 - Blue Ridge, GA

Pros

Good hours, flexible scheduling, nice coworkers

Cons

Low pay, no benefits, rude customers
