Does everything to take money from groomers

10/21/2025 - null

Pros

Petco drove my friends away. Good people. Hard workers. The only good thing is that I met them.

Cons

Management will steal longterm request clients from you to give to other groomers even if it angers clients or destroys your income. District managers and their bosses are allowed to set vendettas against you for asking help with difficult situations. They do nothing about stylists who leave dogs alone on tables, take without rabies, repeatedly cut them to the point of a vet visit, and don't care if a dog is screaming bloody murder or beating the crap out of its head as it barks in the kennel. You are NOT allowed to when in doubt refer out. Charge what ur worth. You DO NOT learn anything from your grooming instructor. You only learn if some poor sap like me takes pity on u after and retrains u. It's not a healthy environment. They made it every man for themselves and you're not allowed to have requests. They do everything they can so you don't meet the pro status and keep your 55%. Bath dogs are only to be done by the bathers. The only way to make money is to work through all your breaks. Never go to the bathroom. And work overtime stacking dogs every 1/2 hour. But they kept shortening appt times and not allowing blocks. ... yeah if you don't have friends in your salon you won't survive.

Cons

Retail, some customers are not fit for animals and often times it leads to conflict when they must be told no. Short breaks, long hours. Some conditions are not great in the store for the animals themselves. Varies across location.

10/09/2025 - Seattle, WA

Pros

Great coworkers, animals, generally reliable scheduling

Cons

Low pay, low hours, management isn’t great

Generally okay, underpaid for difficulty of the job and common megacorp cons

10/09/2025 - Redwood City, CA

Pros

You work with very few people and have to respond to just your salon leader and general manager. You're never the top of the food chain, so if customers are causing problems, you can refer them to a manager instead of dealing with it yourself. You're responsible for your own schedule and you mostly have control over your schedule. You spend a lot of time alone or with 1-4 coworkers out of the view of management and customers. You can listen to music (or at least my manager never said anything about it). Working with dogs can be fun and cute.

Cons

Management places a huge emphasis on money and sales but does not provide sales training. You have to try and sell Vital Care Premiere, which is basically Petco+, and is honestly a bad deal unless you have a LOT of pets. You may have to juggle running to the back to wash a dog and dealing with customers in the front. Some of the rules are stupid and don't apply. Sick hour accrue slowly. You're expected to wash 4-5 dogs per day, but customers booking with you isn't really in your control, so they may assign you to do cold calls. Bookings overlap in the schedule when glitching occurs and customers get upset, and "blocks" for breaks often don't stop people from being able to book a dog at that time. Breaks very very often get missed or skipped because you have to finish dogs in a time crunch. You're responsible for all cleaning, and sometimes cleaning supplies don't get ordered in time. Things break pretty often, and corporate is slow about ordering new things. You may be asked to clean or work in store if the day is slow or you have very few dogs. Corporate is largely dismissive of issues, my manager was clocking my co-worker out for 10 minute breaks (in my state 2 legally required per 8 hour shift) so he could pay her less, and corporate took months to respond and move the case along, and I don't know if she ever got paid what was stolen from her. Working with dogs itself is not for the faint of heart, you will likely get bitten, scratched, peed on, pooped on, possibly bled on, fur in your clothes, eyes, nose and mouth, and you have to do gland expressions which involves pinching around a dog's poop hole. The sanitization aspect is also pretty gross.
