Just another warehouse job

02/16/2025 - Reno-Stead, NV

Pros

Pay is decent, consistent schedule

Cons

Management doesn’t care about you, not good if you have kids, early hours, point based attendance system is bs

Retail is NOT a real job any warm body could do this menial labor

02/17/2025 - null

Pros

Mind-numbingly menial labor - any warm body could do it. Stocking shelves and being a cashier is lower than being a janitor

Cons

Poverty pay, micromanagement (big retail doesn’t want you to stick around they will grind you down because your job is easily replaceable/worthless)

Typical Retail Job

02/18/2025 - null

Pros

Depending on where you work and who you work with, you may have more control on your appointment schedule and what client/dogs you are able to take in.

Cons

Have to deal with and suffer a retail environment. Overworked and expected to do more than what is possible, given their expectations and requirements, to comply with their standards.

Bad management. Bad corporate policies. No support from HR or corporate. List goes on.

02/19/2025 - null

Pros

-Great discounts on pet products if you have pets and use the petco brand. -Fun to work with animals if you’re lucky enough to be around them.- if your allowed to finish your online trainings, they can be extremely helpful and informative.- you can learn a lot about pets and animal care.

Cons

- Horrible management. You will not be supported. - awful corporate policies and corporate managers. They all run on a money matters most mindset but preach animals come first. - customers are the worst most of the time and they treat you like a vet, groomer, robot, slave, and zookeeper in one. They ignore their pets medical needs and expect you to come up with a magical solution to their pet pooping blood for two weeks straight. When you tell them to go to a vet, you get cussed out usually. - Customer always comes first, even if they physically assault you. HR and corporate do not care. They will fire and write you up over anything. - animal care is not prioritized over the needs of the business and profits. - sick animals come in from transit constantly. - inexperienced people are allowed to work with the animals and give them inadequate care, resulting in sickness and death.

Not bad

Pros

Cons

-Upper management is not the easiest of people to deal with-A LOT of training for all employees- Retail is still retail and will suck regardless

Bleh - what you expect from a big corp

02/20/2025 - Emeryville, CA

Pros

Got to see lots of client pets, and caring for the animals in store was motivating. Typically given consistent hours, income felt reliable.

Cons

Toxic environment due to poor management and staff drama, seems like people who are drawn to work with animals are terrible with interacting with other humans.

Burn and turn with good benefits

02/22/2025 - Saint Paul, MN

Cons

Manager

02/22/2025 - Spfld (Long), MA

Pros

Pets are the best to see

Cons

Customers are rude and entitled

High Burnout Rates, Coorporate Cutting Hours

02/23/2025 - Geneva, IL

Pros

If you have a team you communicate well with it is a fantastic place to dip your toes into the animal care industry and get a foot in the door and learn realistic expectations when it comes to animal care. I am lucky to have a GM that cares greatly about animals, so animal care is prioritized. Petco is a good place for BIPOC and LGBTQ members as they do not discriminate.

Cons

Corporate constantly pushes a subscription program they keep cutting the benefits of but raising the price for, and wants employees to use predatory tactics to push sales of this subscription onto those who are easily targeted, e.g, the elderly and disabled. Corporate continually cuts hours to cut costs, and has mostly outside hires for most district and store managers that know little of animal care. Animal care is old and outdated, and while being slowly updated, is not at the levels it should be to encourage proper animal care for guests. Training is lacking and left for employees to do outside of the few packed hours of tasks of work "should they choose".

Was good until it wasn't

02/24/2025 - Las Vegas, NV

Cons

02/25/2025 - Houston, TX

Pros

Cons

They exploit their long tenured employees
