- you learn a lot about animal nutrition- everyone there is passionate about animals and very friendly- you are surrounded by creatives and a team who work together and stick up for each other- management adjusted my schedule and offered me alternate roles to improve my work / home life balance which was very thoughtful
Cons
- employees are the only deterrent for thieves, as the mall police won't stop them and we did not have in-store security- there are a number of responsibilities for a closer, and we were often mildly understaffed- I am unsure about upwards mobility opportunities

Petco does not give you the resources to properly care for animals. When animals get sick they end up dying before they make it to the vet due to Petco not giving locations enough hours to be properly staffed. General managers and district managers have a long history of being friends and they will team up on employees if they have any concerns or complaints. This corrupts the company entirely. Animals do not come first at Petco, money does. Petco will do whatever is takes to increase sales even if that means the animals will suffer. This job completely ruined my mental health and any compassion i had for the animals.

One empty promise after the other. I've been here two years and still have not been sent to training to become a groomer. I'm a bather and have been holding down the salon for a year after the salon leader left. I do more than I'm paid for because a friend taught me how to groom before I came here. Have not sent me to training as promised so I have a chance to make more money. I asked for Sundays off (I've been here a year by myself) and they won't do it because the salon has to be open on weekends. But they haven't even had the job posted for another groomer in months. As for commission pay. That is bull too unless you're willing to break your back to make it. Remember, groomers at mom and pop shops aren't bathing and drying their own dogs. They just cut hair. At Petco, you do it all. Crazy thing is at mom and pop shops, you still make more money.

-Can be traumatizing seeing shipments of dead animals come in-Field leadership and corporate leadership would rather sit behind a desk and have conference calls than actually make strategies to help stores, mentor partners, -Discrimination against pregnant and female employees -Not willing to fairly compensate based on experience or tenure with the company-Human resources relies on what district managers say, and do not properly investigate district managers and up when complaints are made-Modest annual ranges, 3% at most-Extreme favoritism with district managers trickles down into stores

Upper management and corporate does not care about you as an employee. Expectations are unrealistic, unsafe, and employees are completely unsupported. Ever since the company became publicly traded, it’s all about the shareholders not the customer or the people doing the day to day. Upper management wants to know why a highly profitable salon doesn’t have any pros - they raised the threshold to the point of being unattainable.

Many who are in senior positions either:1) were spared from the new management coming in and are glossy eyed politics players that literally have no idea how to run their areas or grow a business2) leaders that fly in a week here or there (way to save expenses...) have their own priorities and no idea how to treat people or think about the customer.-ceo who is detached
