10/14/2024 - Bay Pines, FL
Pros
Federal Job benefits, patients are amazing, RN to patient ratio is fair.
Cons
Poor nursing culture on many units with toxic attitudes and behaviors, terrible medical care-no EBP to be found here - like stepping back to the 80s where nurses are there to assist physicians only not think - nurses aren't allowed to use full scope of license (cannot access ports, draw labs on cvc)
Keeping the focus on our Veterans

Don't work in this region
10/10/2024 - Waco, TX
Pros
Review OPM on grade/step increase. Telework policy. Best pay in VR working in the public sector. Current local supervisor very supportive.
Cons
No matter level of experience will be hired as GS-9 if non-federal hire. Insurance is paid by employee at high rate. No performance awards. Threats and toxic environment from regional leadership. Micromanagement from regional leadership. Current regional leadership is atrocious. Staff pitted against each other, informally discouraged to communicate and collaborate. Receive consistent verbal abuse from claimants. Favoritism and steamrolling in full effect when it comes to opportunities within the region and within VBA as a whole. Treated as a machine to produce while being told to be compassionate and available to claimants without the appropriate tools or time to complete in the required manner. No educational / continuing education support. Treated as a child and not as a professional in decisions made. Constant misinterpretation of federal regulation and department policy. Non-VR professionals hired at same pay level with little to no support to understand the basics of the program and disability. Non-VR professionals completing quality reviews leading to continued confusion and misinformation. Executive level leadership has no understanding of disability, vocational rehabilitation, or the current circumstances at the local offices leading to false information being shared in the media that creates negative impact at regional/out-based locations with unrealistic standards and continually aggressive claimants.
