Do it for the residents

Pros
The staff have to be a certain kind of people to be taking care of the elderly, especially in memory care. Many of them are kind and empathetic. Not exactly jaded but rather, task-oriented and willing to serve. The kind of people you would give a ride to work or give birthday presents to, without a second thought.
Cons
As a corporation, it is the job of upper management to see people as numbers. Food industry norms do not end here at a medical environment. We are still over worked with a skeleton crew and low budget. We are still seen as numbers and machines to push out results.

Brookdale ALF...is a "challenging mixed bag" employment experience

Excellent care teams and Wellness department leadership in the ALF communities.
Cons
Pay rates are below industry standards for nurses, med techs, and care aides.Unqualified, unskilled non-clinicians are encouraged to overstep in aspects of facility management and operations that are far beyond their legal scope and comprehension. Horrific disrespect for nurses throughout the company (the only trained, educated, licensed, and legally responsible people in the ALF) .

I love Brookdale. The people are kind and understanding of a work-life balance.
Cons
Even as someone remote, I can only live so far from the headquarters. I would love to still work with Brookdale no matter where I live! But I have to be within 2 hours of the community.

There are a select few employees that are a pleasure to work with. They know the job and are dependable, and they are dedicated to their residents. The Resident Care Coordinator was flexible with working hours when the need arose.Overall rewarding job if you truly care for your residents. The Core company seems phenomenal.
Cons
The following cons are just for the East Mesa location. Very high turnover of employees. Lots of callouts. Those few employees that remained got burned out quickly. The scheduling needs per house were spread way too thin. Very little communication between shifts so it was easy for things to slip between the cracks.Poor communication and consistency of support by management team.

Brookdale has so many educational programs to offer that can help you learn on a larger scale to prepare for different roles. The community that I am with is family oriented and the residents are a blessing.

This org. cares for their Residents, and is a clean and safe facility. Co-workers are great and sincerely care about their Residents. Loved seeing the interaction, and the Residents who are happy to be there.

Sad when a Resident passes away - but that is par for the course because of the age of the Residents.

Meeting and getting to know the residents.The pay isn't terrible, but considering what you'll be dealing with the pay isn't enough to keep you there.

This is the most toxic work environment I've ever experienced. HR isn't what it's supposed to be. There is a tight friend group and anything you complain about or bring to their attention will make it back to whomever you're having issues with. Nothing is confidential. Your next option would be the Integrity Line, but they won't do anything either. They just send it back to the people you went around so that you could be "heard".The reason I started with this is because I really feel that this may be the main fault in being employed there. Every workplace has drama, and I get that but, with so many employees and an HR department and management that won't take any accusations or complaints seriously, being harassed with no solution is likely, being bullied with no solution is likely, reporting elder abuse with no solution is likely, the list goes on and on. Any horrible workplace nightmare you can imagine would probably fly there.
