Great company, loved my job

Pros
Working for SCI was great, I felt supported and that I always had help when needed, Coworkers and others I worked with supported my goals and were good team players. I loved most people I worked with and the pay was about average.
Cons
The only downside to working in funeral service- working holidays, but other than that I had no negative experiences.

My manager is open to expanding one's role based on their past or current experience. I began five years ago on a limited part time basis working and average of 5 to 10 hours a week as a Funeral Services Assistant. I eventually needed more hours so, my previous occupations and life experiences have enabled me to expand my roles. An honest chat with my superior provided opportunities among our five locations. My current position involves not only funeral assisting but also being a part of the office administration team, doing light building and grounds maintenance, errand runner and conducting the role of a Life Celebrant. As a semi- retired person, my current roles fulfill lifetime goals and bring much occupational and personal satisfaction. I love what I do! The job gives me purpose and keeps me physically and mentally active. I am very grateful.
Cons
Having a multi-faceted position as such, requires coming to the aid of several people and sometimes I have to say "no" due to keeping my employment status part-time, under 30 hours per week, which is perfect for me. It's nice to be needed, however and I help wherever and whenever I can.

Serving families is genuinely meaningful and rewarding; you build deep empathy and resilience. High autonomy to create your own pipeline. Strong earnings only if you can self generate consistent business. I’m proud of the care I provided and the relationships I built.
Cons
Six day workweeks became the norm, often with only one day off every other week. Leads are mostly cold or stale, so you must self advertise and dig through old files to find business. Outdoor services in rain, snow, and heat, leading up to three or four funerals a day, plus last minute services with one to two days to complete paperwork. Hourly started at $10; later policy raised hourly but cut commissions, reducing real take home for top sellers. I consistently brought in about $100K a month against a $42K quota, yet I was ultimately terminated under the “three bad months and you’re out” rule three weak months out of more than three years of strong performance. Frequent corporate visits felt like critique, not coaching; I was told I could “do better” even while overdelivering.

Did not offer options to costumers and try to force them to acquire property. Manager lies about compensation and Training. One of the worst applications of efficiency in a commission based job. Mediocrity is rampant.

Pay is low, management tries to work everyone to the bone. While I was there they implemented a no days off policy including weekends...luckily it did not last. Lot of people having affairs with each other.

Pay is not much to write home about. Even though there are some great benefits, the healthcare insurance offerings aren't affordable compared to what you get.
