The work atmosphere was relaxed at first, but eventually, the administration became overly productivity focused without identifying clear goals, nor collaborating with their workers to define them.

Pros

Shannon is one of the Talent Acquisition Representatives at Smile Brands. From day one, she was knowledgeable, professional and kind. She would check in on me to make sure I was understanding what I needed to do during the hiring process and always there to answer any questions I would have. Thank you Shannon for all that you did for me. You are the best! I hope all new hires have the opportunity to come in contact with you!

Marketing - Remote

06/02/2024 - Minneapolis, MN

Pros

Remote, busy, never boring, lots of trade shows if you’re into that

Cons

Over worked, bad onboarding, lack of training

Horrible and toxic work place

06/06/2024 - Nashville, TN

Pros

The only pros are the benefits. Really good health insurance if you choose the PPO policy.

Cons

Negative work environment. District manager does not have anyone’s back but her own. Really awful attitude towards everyone. Horrible staff with horrible attitudes but they are all underpaid and overworked so I don’t blame them. They can never find anyone to take positions and then expect the managers to still have things done even though they’re doing the jobs of 3 people by themselves with no help. Extremely unprofessional. I couldn’t be paid triple my previous salary to work here again.

Would work again

Cons

Big company that could have you overlooked due to how many people there are

No Bueno

10/29/2025 - null

Pros

Decent Salary. Docs and teams were good.

Cons

When I was hired I was told that my market would be switching from an old outdated system (QSI Dental Billing) and paper charts to Dentrix Ascend in the fall. Once hired, this was pushed to the end of year and most recently I was told that it isn’t going to happen anytime soon and possibly not for a couple of years. This is a 25 year old system that uses COMMANDS to function. It’s nearly impossible to recruit and retain docs and hygienist for this reason alone. I lost several hygienists once they found out they had to write in paper charts. These young new or fairly new grads don’t want to go back intime-25 years! There was no training. I watched a couple videos and had a few intro calls with SOME of the departments. I walked into my practices solo and had to figure it out. Finally 2 months post hire, my new boss (changed after 6 weeks of hire) came to “tour” my practices with me. We visited 10 practices in 2 days. Still no training. Then came time to do a monthly biz review and present to my team and boss. I was sent a deck of slides with all kinds of info and was told to use it as an example and make it my own. I had NEVER once seen this. No training. No one ever sat down with me and walked me through one. It was awful. I spent so many hours and weekends working on this each month. It was starting to click (should have months ago but when you are left to figure it out, it takes time). My boss told my team that it should take no more than an hour, but she never showed us how she does them in hour. Obviously, because she can’t and no one on the team could. The practices are cluttered and boxes of charts are stacked randomly through the office. My teams wanted a storage building to store them in but I was told we don’t have the revenue for it. They would stress to us to push elevated standard of care. Treat your patients like they are family member on the chair. Hard to do when I wouldn’t let my family sit in the 25 year old dental chairs that are covered in duct tape. There are portable AC units with big aluminum hoses running down the hallway and out of a window. Dirty stained ceiling tiles, chipped paint and dirty cabinets and walls. Overhead lights out everywhere. They are so outdated old looking. No thanks, I’ll take my family to other brand new beautiful practice on the second floor. No mentors for the new docs. This really blew my mind. They have “PC Presidents” but they practice full time and do nothing with the new docs. I couldn’t believe that there was no senior doc to guide these new hires who were mostly new grads. However, they are expected to produce $5K a day without clinical guidance. The “marketing team” is actually the call center. Their idea of marketing is making sure the patients can schedule online, and that calls are being answered. I had a doc look Julie right in the face and ask to see the direct mail that was going out for his practice and she couldn’t produce one. She said, “that is not why we are here” and shut him down. I got in trouble for telling a couple OM’s that their practice was on the watchlist to be closed (it was), but Julie looked one of my docs and OM in the eyes and said you are all going to lose your jobs. Hmm. Last but not least, these practices are DHMO heavy. Once the docs come off their daily guarantee they can’t produce enough to survive and ultimately end up leaving. They will tell you there are ways to make money with these plans, but there isn’t it. THERE IS NO WAY TO MAKE MONEY WITH HMO PLANS!! They need to look at the Sr. VP of the market because they are losing the wrong people. Your’e expected to be in practices 3 days a week. Monday and Friday was an admin day, with back to back calls and trainings for random stuff. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday your in a practice and engaged with your teams so not looking and working emails. The only time to catch up on the 100’s of emails is to do it in the evenings. So you are working sometimes 10-12 hours a day. No work/life balance what’s ever.
