A reminder to all: your employer does not care about you. You can sacrifice for them, go all-in everyday and even put your team before yourself--which I did everyday for a decade. I loved my job even though I was under-paid. Up until I was randomly isolated, falsely accused of something, then fired. I was the sole provider for my family and this felt like a full on attack. Leading up to this it makes sense because I was given big internal projects that essentially they couldn't do without my expertise. I had a great manager until she retired 2 years later. After she left it went down hilI had 4 different supervisors after her. They all kept me stagnant. Performance reviews started feeling like gas lighting--they went to strong-performer to 'wtf do you do again'? I was told the "performance" review was based on whether or not I was efficient at housekeeping tasks like doing my HealthStream courses or catching fishing emails. The last manager I had was the biggest mystery; she had no prior recruitment experience, she had the audacity to justify my performance as "met expectations" even though it was based on the processes and strategies that I designed. The metrics speak for themselves. And under this manager I was given a broader scope and bigger workload with no growth opportunity or increase in pay.Don't let any of the fluff fool you. They are all business. Its about money. Don't outperform because it will never be enough. Rather it will be seen as threat with the fear it will make other functions obsolete. I actually thought I had friends at work but I was isolated and left confused.
Work from home benefits overshadowed by inconsistent rules

You would be hard-pressed to find a more toxic environment than Revenue. I'm shocked the abusive management hasn't lead to yet another class-action suit against Sutter before now. Colleagues are developing disabling health conditions because of the stressful, abusive environment. Upper leadership seems dedicated to making the least humane decisions possible, while front line leadership is checked out and demoralized.

The mission is genuinely meaningful, and I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside some exceptional physicians, PAs, nurses, NPs, and other healthcare professionals who care deeply about their patients. There are incredibly talented people throughout Sutter, and being able to contribute to work that directly impacts patients and families can be very rewarding.I’ve also been fortunate to have colleagues and clinical partners who recognize initiative, efficiency, and the value of improving the patient experience. There is tremendous potential here for someone who wants to make a difference in healthcare.

Sutter is a very large organization, and at times the employment structure feels much more rigid than the work itself requires.Coming from many years in corporate environments, one of the biggest adjustments has been how heavily roles can be defined by job classification, hours worked, and established pay bands rather than scope, expertise, output, or impact. An employee can expand a role considerably, take ownership of programs, identify gaps, build new processes, and operate very independently, yet there may be limited mechanisms to recognize that growth through title, compensation, or career progression if the work no longer fits neatly within the original job classification.Flexibility can also be challenging. For roles that do not require continuous patient-facing coverage, there is an opportunity for Sutter to modernize its approach to hybrid work, scheduling, and performance measurement. Experienced professionals are often accustomed to being evaluated on outcomes rather than simply physical presence or hours at a desk.Benefits such as PTO can also feel limited compared with many large Bay Area employers, particularly for experienced hires accustomed to more generous vacation policies. Parking and commuting can add another meaningful expense and quality-of-life consideration for employees working at San Francisco locations.
