WinCo Foods Reviews

Great pay and friendly people, but management issues

04/27/2026 - Bellingham, WA

Pros

Winco pays very well compared to other grocery stores in the area. Coworkers are friendly, and ESOP and benefits are also really good if you can get hours to contribute to the ESOP or your benefits,

Cons

The scheduling is very inconsistent. Couple shifts you'll be closing and then in the middle of the week you get a mid shift schedule which is typically 10-6:30 or 11-7:30 and then on you're Friday before your weekend you end up being scheduled a closing shift which typically is 1-9:30pm and as we get closer to summer it's 1:30-10pm. Manager doesn't know how to make a consistent schedule at all. The only people who get consistent schedules are the openers, managers and people who've been there for a longer period of time. People have voiced this to the produce manager, but he is tone deaf and wants people to have "variety". Which doesn't make any sense at all. Give us the shifts we want to have, and stop giving people random shifts all the time. The only way to get a better shift it seems like is to wait for people to quit, or get fired. Good luck though because all the people who are in this department don't want to leave at all and have been there for years. In the Fall through Spring they will cut your hours instead of 40 hours a week, I ended up getting cut to 32 hours because corporate gives a certain amount of hours to different departments. Although our store is busy they can't seem to allocate hours properly because the Idaho stores which where WinCo resides in gets more hours than the stores who put in more profit and they aren't nearly as busy.Management also seems to promote people a lot from within and are very particular on who they hire because it all revolves around there favorites. There is no point in even trying to go for a higher position because you'll get snuffed out due to favoritism even if you have experience and a hard worker.

Opportunities for growth hindered by nepotism and turnover

04/28/2026 - Edmonds, WA

Pros

Ability to learn new skills, different departments and growth within the company, wonderful health insurance and employee stock options available

Cons

Nepatism within management, zero consequences for bad behavior or laziness if you're friends with store manager, high turnover because of it

Fun experience overall needs to work on management

04/09/2026 - Henderson, NV

Pros

Working at Winco Foods was a fun & great experience.

Cons

Management has lack of procedure & someone from management/HR falsely rewrote my statements when I was injured back in 2025. Need to investigate their management/HR.

Strong benefits overshadowed by uncaring management

04/25/2026 - Kent, WA

Pros

Very good health benefits. Decent retirement for retail/grocery. Guaranteed raises based on hours worked.

Cons

Management doesn't care about you or your coworkers, or the workload they're asking of you. They will work you to the bone and all they want to hear from you is a thumb's up and an "everything's great, boss!"

Don't work here

02/11/2026 - null

Pros

I like some of my coworkers and sometimes the customers are nice

Cons

The pay is a joke, I don't even make enough to afford the provided health insurance. The holiday bonus is a store gift card. It's insulting. My schedule is so inconsistent that I can never predict my hours and I never work the same hours each day. Once you use your sick hours, you don't get any until the next anniversary of your hiring date. This means that you have to go to work sick or you will get attendance points. They schedule cashiers so thin that if one person calls out, the entire day is horrible and stressful. The whole "employee owned" thing is just a way to keep us from joining a union. I have never had any voice or power in my contract. They only give you the minimum breaks legally required, I have to ask to use the bathroom like I'm in grade school. My multiple requests to change departments have been ignored. It feels like upper management is actively sabotaging us. Once top of everything, my gender identity is ignored by at least half of my superiors, my deadname is publicly displayed on the schedule, and I was asked to remove my pronoun pins when corporate visits.
