- Usually a very nice staff to work with. As an OM, you get to hire the candidates you think would be best for front desk, opening/closing, kids club & janitorial. - You're regarded as the "face of the club" and work hand-in-hand with the training and sales departments. - 40 hour work weeks, M-F , 9-6p so there's good work life balance. - Easy & straight forward job IF you're good at managing 5-15, have a good/reliable staff & have people and have good customer service skills (you'll need those!).
Cons
- There's no room for growth in Operations! It on average takes 5-10 years for an OM to get moved to a District OM (much more room for growth on sales)- Can be very hard finding committed staff - the job is not set up for them to stay long. Without a strong staff, your job becomes 10x harder. You'll have to keep up open/close shifts and constantly be interviewing/hiring while keeping up with gym operations- You're a glorified front desk worker. Most of your day will be you alone at the front desk making service/billing calls & scanning people in.- Pay is subpar to average. I worked in the biggest market in CA and our top OM's were making maybe $60-$65k(and those were just b/c they had busy clubs). Small to medium clubs will make $45-55k and it's all based on billing/service call quotas.- Calls are always debt collecting or customer issues/complaints- You will receive constant complaints for shady sales personnel & will either have to cover up for them or have them against you.
