Nordstrom Reviews

Great people and flexible hours, but poor HR and early career pay

08/29/2026 - null

Pros

- Lots of good people who are friendly to work with, I genuinely enjoy going into the office everyday people wise, although the work can be repetitive- While retail changes, Nordstrom is focused on the future and wants to grow the constant for the long term- the company is private which has allowed the brothers who own the company now to focus on long term growth and not be worried about shareholder whims- hours are generally not too stressful. We are selling clothes not brain surgery. There are nights that go long but there are days when you can duck out early for appointments-3/4 bosses have been great, flexible with desire to help you - For new employees the WFO rules are perfect, get to know coworkers but a flexible day, people who want WFH are usually old employees who dont want to switch spots, which is fine. But the collaborative environment is better with in office which Nordstrom aims to foster

Cons

-Like any big company the bureaucracy is tedious. Lots of corporate levels to get answers. Classic big company issue can’t fault for that- Pay can poor. The finance pay was so bad that there was nearly 15 senior financial analyst spots open. I have heard managers say we flat out can’t hire Amazon people because they want too much money-lots of change employee wise and leadership wise-HR is the worst of any company I have worked for. They will lie to your face about pay, give round about answers about bonus structures and are clearly there to help the company and NOT the employee. The VOE employee is supposed to be anonymous but they can easily tell who filled it out. I can not go into details for fear of repercussion, but I have interacted with 4-5 HRBPs in different positions from in-store to office and they have all given misleading and outright false information. Sometimes I think it is not malicious but just general incompetence, not sure if that makes it better or worse. They gave us a company wide survey about benefits (making it look like they would be cut) and then provided no further explanation. Avoid them at all cost.

Great pay, but culture doesn't match the promise

08/29/2026 - null

Pros

Great pay and benefits. Increased scope than usual.

Cons

Can sell you a people culture but in supply chain see the opposite.

Great benefits but limited growth to management

08/28/2026 - Topanga, CA

Pros

Great benefits, great place to build confidence in sales.

Cons

Hard to grow from sales to management

Commission and friendly coworkers, but poor management

08/27/2026 - Bellevue, WA

Pros

Commission, friendly coworkers, decent pay

Cons

Managers can be bad, not great training

Good people, but lots of processing returns

08/27/2026 - Arcadia, CA

Pros

Decent discount, especially with access to so many brands. Lots of seasonal employees hired at the same time, so you’ll meet a lot of new people.

Cons

Lots of processing returns, sometimes took away from being able to sell.

Good pay and schedule, but drama and overtime issues

08/26/2026 - null

Pros

• The pay • Store Discount • Monday - Friday schedule •

Cons

• Drama• Retaliation • Mandatory Overtime

High earning potential, but lots of downtime

08/25/2026 - Alderwood

Pros

Lots of money to be made if you’re a good sales person.

Cons

A lot of down time

Great pay and culture, but avoid store operator role

08/24/2026 - Seattle, WA

Pros

- Good pay- Nice Coworkers & great company culture Nordstrom genuinely cares about its employees, and that is something that I’ll never take away from them!

Cons

I can’t speak for other positions within the company, but if you’re thinking about applying to become a store operator, please don’t do it! First of all, the customers are so rude and disrespectful. Second of all, you take calls for 200+ full line department stores. Although the calls are short, you’ll end up taking a lot of them which leaves you little time to relax for at least a couple of minutes so that you can gather your thoughts and breathe. Third of all, it is so easy to become burnt out from this position, not to mention the high expectations that are placed on you as far as your performance, and that determines your rank when it comes time for shift bids. Please listen to me, and do any other job within the company besides Store Operator, it is not enjoyable!

Good learning environment, but slow and political

08/23/2026 - Seattle, WA

Pros

Good place to learn the basics of software engineering and have structural foundation of all new technologies

Cons

Very slow placed and political, Hierarchal company. Not enough leeway for growth.

Nordstrom is a pretty cool place to work at imo (As a shoe care specialist)

08/23/2026 - Canoga Park, CA

Pros

-Fun work environment-Tight-knit team-Good conversation with customers-Tips

Cons

-Have to purchase your own cleaning equipment & materials-Requires precision; shoe can be messed up if you are not careful-Customers are mostly made unaware that the booth exists

3/10 Don't Reccomend- Some Good Benefits but Overall Poor Culture

08/22/2026 - Beachwood, OH

Pros

As a support, you make $16.05 an hour. 401K matching Donation/ Volunteer matchingSome departments make commission AND hourly

Cons

If you come in as a sales person youll make about $13.05 an hour with the ~chance~ to earn commission (but you can only have one of the two);Unless you're in Beauty, Active, or At Home you'll make ~$20-ish hourly PLUS commission. The commission goals are RIDGID and with their return policy its almost impossible for you to hit your sales goals.
