Always work to be done

09/26/2024 - San Mateo, CA

Pros

There was always work to be done, which was great if you were wanting to pick up ours into overtime. In logistics you get to support all the department managers with their particular needs wether they need you to scan all items of the clothes and other merchandise to markdown the prices to their new clearance price, while also help supporting the managers fixing and correcting price tags and items that have problems, like it having to ticket at all or found in the wrong department. There’s always sales going on and merchandise is always needing to be updated with written new sale prices. You can also find yourself helping the Visual merchandising team, with their floor moves and resetting of the departments, helping them move fixtures or help organize clothing tables and displays.Communication is very valued there. If you’re updating items or find discrepancies or finish a project, or were unable to finish a project, your stopping points are helpful to communicate to the department manager so they know what has and hasn’t gotten done yet. Or communicating your work or important issues to your direct manager, for the, to communicate that to the department managers.Department Managers themselves really appreciate when you communicate to them any updates or discrepancies they should be aware of.It’s great fun when you’re there long enough to be familiar with everyone that work there. And Nordstrom can look good having on your resume. The Pros were:A good decent pay, maybe around $19.50-20hr.Good health insurance, as long as you’re working 32hrs a week. I had Kaiser Permanente. They have a matching 401k plan.Discount applied to clothes and cafe restaurant and ebar.During Covid-19 in 2020 when a lot of us weren’t allowed to come back to work, they continued to pay for our health insurance for maybe 4-5 months. That was really nice of them.Nordstrom also really tries to be better than other companies with offering a high pay rate for hourly workers.

Cons

Sometimes during certain parts of the year when it is slow, they will have to cut hours and send people home early to save on money.

Cons

Challenging but great employees

09/27/2024 - Chicago, IL

Pros

I loved almost all my coworkers in my department and in other departments. Super friendly and helpful!

Cons

Since it’s a commission based company it’s very difficult to count on what your commission will be. They accept returns basically forever no questions asked. Sometimes these returns happen when you’re not there and have no idea what nor why something was returned. Not being there you lose the opportunity to possibly sell something different to the customer.
