Meaningful Work, but Poor Management Culture Overshadows It

Only 1 WFH day every two weeks for starters! But the biggest issue, in my experience, was the management culture within the finance team.Expectations were frequently incomplete or unclear, but employees could still be held accountable for not somehow knowing what management wanted. At times, you could deliver exactly what was originally requested only to find that the expectations had changed afterward. The goalposts could feel constantly in motion.There was also a lack of basic professional respect. Employees’ time should matter regardless of title, yet there were occasions when management did not show up for scheduled meetings. Respect was also lacking in how disagreements and performance issues were handled. Employees should receive constructive feedback, not be thrown under the bus or feel as though multiple members of leadership are teaming up against one person.Good work was often met with silence while mistakes or perceived shortcomings received considerably more attention. Over time, that can cause capable employees to second guess themselves rather than helping them grow.The environment could feel competitive rather than collaborative. Comparisons between employees and perceived favoritism created unnecessary distrust. Support from upper management also did not always feel equally available. In my experience, unless you were among the favored employees, you could not necessarily count on leadership advocating for you when problems arose.There were situations where it felt as though management aligned with one another before fully hearing an employee’s perspective. No employee should enter what they believe will be a discussion only to realize that the room has effectively already decided who is at fault.Internal politics and perception could also receive too much attention relative to the actual quality and operational details of the work.There are talented people at CHRISTUS and meaningful work to be done. Unfortunately, poor management practices can overshadow those positives.

It was a great place to work. My coworkers were were pleasant to work with. The doctors and mid level providers really cared about their patients. I felt supported by staff and management.

There were not many cons, mostly the noncompliance the patients, but you probably get that most places these days.
Good internship for public / community health students

Good way to build basic office skills and learn many community health resources. Can improve patient communication and critical thinking skills. You learn to self-pace and data entry skills.
Cons
Data entry was somewhat tedious. Phone calls could yield 0 results due to clients being unaware of program and thinking its a scam call. Not much interaction in the day unless client is a current patient in the hospital.
