KP is an all-around good employer.
09/24/2024 - Vallejo, CA
Pros
Kaiser provides an all-around good work environment. The organization’s goals to provide excellent healthcare, focusing on preventative measures, is forward-thinking and most-often reliable. I appreciate working for an organization which supports diversity and keeps politics out of the workplace.
Cons
Unfortunately, as is common in the healthcare arena, these days, providers are stretched thin. Physicians have literally minutes to speak to patients. As I am aware of this, I try not to ask my doctor anything which is not necessary. After several years of almost no lab tests (in my 50’s), after much thought, asked my doctor for a few specific lab tests (nothing extreme or unusual). She declined most of them, so I paid to get them done outside of Kaiser. In the last few years, I have sought care outside Kaiser, because it was simply easier. KP in Northern California essentially does not provide urgent care- even while knowing that their competition is winning-over customers in this realm. I believe there are solutions, but KP does not engage employees to consider ideas for improvement. While most often Kaiser ultimately negotiates contracts with unions, they have an everlasting adversarial relationship with unions. KP avoids collaboration with unions unless required during last minute contract negotiations.
Good pay and staffing
09/29/2024 - Vallejo, CA
Pros
Excellent pay and very good patient nurse ratios
Cons
Can be very bureaucratic and rigid
salary
09/02/2024 - Los Angeles, CA
Pros
Great work environment most of the time
Cons
Stressful and fast-paced for the majority of the time
Great job,
09/08/2024 - Fremont, CA
Pros
Working with physicians who are colleagues instead of "customers of the hospital" (some of whom demand special treatment/invoke the CEO's name constantly/threaten to take cases to competing hospital) is a huge plus. The surgeon leads the time out, which is fantastic. (I have been treated poorly for following policy to ensure patient safety by sarcastic surgeons and assists in a lot of private practice situations. Time outs are not new!) Unionized RNs mean I get my breaks and am relieved promptly to prevent overtime. Call pay is extremely high, so nurses with seniority claim it all.
Cons
Upper management on medical/physician side are focused on metrics over patient care. If you want overtime/call pay, don't expect it.
Administrative Services Supervisor
09/11/2024 - Los Angeles, CA
Pros
Benefits are the biggest perks of the company.
Cons
Biggest cons are promotions when you aren't networking accordingly.
Depends on your department and leadership
09/13/2024 - Fremont, CA
Pros
Large organization with many resources, well organized infrastructure. Some benefits of working for a large HMO is that you can focus on good patient care and don’t have to try and upsell things or work for profit or deal with insurance companies
Cons
Pressures of meeting access as an HMO which comes with a lot of idiosyncrasies
